What is a Termite Inspection?

Termite Inspection

You think, “Okay, I understand that you look for termites, but what’s REALLY involved in a termite inspection—and why should I pay for it?” Well, that’s a legitimate question, and our team here at TLC Home Inspections, would be glad to lay out the details for you.

The 4-1-1 on Termites

Termites are wood-eating insects that are small (about the size of a quarter). They have wings and relatively straight torsos and antennae. Rarely do you find just one termite since they tend to hang out in swarms. But what you really need to know about termites is the damage they can do to your home. Termites can destroy wood, eating away at your siding, foundation and more. The bad news, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, is that often you don’t even know it’s happening until you run across a swarm that’s already set up camp in your home.

Termite Inspections

The best way to find out whether you have termites and take preventative measures is to get a termite inspection. At TLC Home Inspections, our team will come to your home and thoroughly look for termites and signs of infestation. If we detect or suspect a problem, then we will provide you with a comprehensive report and connect you with area remediation experts and contractors who can help you get rid of these pests. We can’t do the work ourselves, but we can help you find someone who can.

Note: If you’re getting a termite inspection prior to purchasing a home in the Austin area, we recommend that you include a termite inspection along with your residential inspection. If termites are found, you may want to negotiate with the sellers to get the problem and repairs taken care of prior to signing on the dotted line.
